A seminar on clearing the Co Co river for the socioeconomic development in Quang Nam- Da Nang has just been held by Quang Nam province and Da Nang city.
The strip of land between Da Nang city and Hoi An ancient town (Quang Nam province), which is parallel to the coastline, has become attractive to investors.
A lot of real estate projects have been carried out there. It is worth noting that the Co Co river flows along the coast before merging with the Han river (Da Nang city).
Therefore, the river becomes very interesting for investors. According to several experts, clearing the Co Co river should be considered as a key project because there will be an increase of land value there when the project is completed on the one hand.
The project will impulse the urbanisation in the area and the development of tourism there.
On the other hand, clearing the Co Co river will connect Da Nang and Hoi An through the inland waterway. Along the river, there are several residential areas, real estate and tourism projects.
Therefore, the river will be an ideal connection between them, creating a diverse system of tourist attractions.
Resolution 43 of the Central Government on construction and development of Da Nang city to 2030, with a vision to 2045, is to establish the Da Nang urban area including Chan May (Lang Co- Hue), Da Nang, Dien Ban, Hoi An, and Nam Hoi An.
The building of an urban and tourism space along the Co Co river contributes to the development of high-class tourism and services, playing an important role in the completion of the Da Nang urban area.
However, the problem is that the planning has to be synchronous. The area has to be designed with natural spaces such as parks to create “green lungs” for the city.
Moreover, the clearing of the Co Co river gives chances to the development of ecotourism and river tourism. It is also an opportunity for urban infrastructure development.
The experts also suggested that Da Nang and Quang Nam make every effort to attract environmentally friendly projects, giving priorities to universities and colleges, especially international ones, hi-tech hubs, business incubators, digital transformation projects.
The localities should take advantage of human resources in place, encouraging innovative start-ups and migration into new urban areas, attracting visitors to this area and creating jobs on the spot.
