(QNO) - Quang Nam has just submitted a report to the Government of Vietnam in terms of the national programme of Ngoc Linh ginseng development in the period of 2021-2030, with a vision to 2045.
National brand of ginseng
Ngoc Linh Ginseng, also known as Vietnamese Ginseng, is a species of the Panax ginseng genus under Araliaceae family.
There are 52 saponin compounds in Ngoc Linh ginseng root. 26 of them are not found in other ginseng species in the world.
So, Ngoc Linh ginseng is categorised as one of the 5 world’s precious ginseng species.
Ngoc Linh ginseng has been recognized as a national product, a treasure of Vietnam. So, it is now planted as a local key commodity, contributing to the local poverty alleviation.
Since the project on Ngoc Linh ginseng conservation and development was approved by the Government of Vietnam in 2015, Ngoc Linh ginseng has been preserved and grown well in Quang Nam, covering an area of 10,000 hectares with the participation of nearly 20 enterprises.
Goals of Ngoc Linh ginseng development
According to Deputy Chairman of the Quang Nam provincial People’s Committee Ho Quang Buu, Quang Nam is cherishing a dream of Vietnamese ginseng industry, desiring to make it a key economic sector of Vietnam, bringing Ngoc Linh ginseng to the world.
Quang Nam will make every effort to become a place to produce and supply Ngoc Linh ginseng seeds with 100 seed farms by 2025.
It is also necessary to build factories to make ginseng products such as functional foods, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals.
Besides, the infrastructure of the ginseng region should be built and upgraded to facilitate tourism development.
By 2030, Quang Nam will become the national centre for Ngoc Linh ginseng seeds. The Ngoc Linh ginseng products will be exported then.
By 2045, Vietnam will become a ginseng-producing country with the competitiveness equivalent to Korea’s. Ngoc Linh ginseng can be grown in plain regions.
Benefits from Ngoc Linh ginseng development
One of the visible benefits from Ngoc Linh ginseng development is creating the stable livelihood for the locals, increasing their income and living standard via planting ginseng and providing tourism services.
Moreover, planting ginseng always accompanies forest restoration, protection, and afforesting.
Therefore, Quang Nam’s and Vietnam’s environment will be better. At the same time, Vietnam will have benefits from carbon certificates.
