Daimler cooperates with THACO (Truong Hai Auto Corporation) in distributing Mercedes-Benz buses in Vietnam, making a stepping stone to sell buses to ASEAN countries.
According to Daimler, THACO has become the general distributor for Daimler's bus division in Vietnam as of June 1, 2020.
In Vietnam, THACO will assemble the chassis before equipping Mercedes-Benz buses with their bodywork at the Chu Lai Open Economic Zone.
Components kits for chassis will be sent to THACO by the Brazilian Mercedes-Benz São Bernardo do Campo plant next month.
Daimler Buses supposes that buses are an important means of transport in Vietnam. It is estimated that with approximately 3,500 units, the Vietnamese bus market is bigger than those of Spain and Italy.
Daimler’s buses that are sold in Vietnam will be equipped with the Mercedes-Benz OM 457 engine in different power outputs: 348 kW and 422 kW.
Reportedly, Daimler and THACO signed a contract for technology transfer and Fuso buses and trucks distribution in Vietnam in December, 2017. Accordingly, all the business activities of Mercedes-Benz in Vietnam would be undertaken by THACO.
At present, THACO is holding famous brands including Kia, Mazda, Peugeot, BMW, Mini, THACO Bus, THACO Truck, Fuso and Mercedes-Benz.
