(QNO) - A webinar themed “Vietnam- Africa Agricultural Cooperation: Enhancing Connectivity, Ensuring Sustainable Development Together” has just been organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam and the International Organization of La Francophonie.
The event outlined the challenges and opportunities for Vietnam and Africa agricultural cooperation in the new era, proposing trade promotion measures for agricultural products, especially key agricultural products.
In addition, the webinar discussed some successful models of agricultural cooperation, specific initiatives and measures to make a breakthrough in agricultural cooperation between Vietnam and Africa, and the role of the private sectors, localities, and institutes.
Reported from the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the trade turnover of agricultural products between Vietnam and Africa is constantly increasing.
In 2020, the export turnover of Vietnam’s agricultural – forestry - fishery products, mainly rice, coffee, seafood to Africa reached nearly 950 million USD, accounting for more than 30% of the total export turnover of Vietnam to Africa. At the same time, Vietnam spent 1.4 billion USD importing African agricultural products, mainly cashew nuts.
According to the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the African continent has a population of more than 1.3 billion people and abundant land resources, the potential for comprehensive agricultural cooperation between Vietnam and Africa.
The Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs along with local and international partners will create a favourable environment to further promote multi-field cooperation between Vietnam and Africa, especially in agriculture.
According to Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, Vietnam and several African countries have become each other's leading agricultural trading partners.
As Vietnam and Africa have enormous potential for agricultural cooperation, two parties should make use of the opportunities to improve cooperation efficiency towards sustainable development.
