Expanding both time and space of walking streets in Hoi An


(QNO) - In order to meet tourists’ demand, from 1st April 2014,  there will be some adjustments in the implementation time for the “ Walking streets for pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles in the old town of Hoi An” art performances.
Accordingly, these pedestrian streets will open 30 minutes later {(at 08:30 a.m.) and close at the usual time (11:00 a.m.)} in the morning, from 8:30 to 11:00; and 1 hour later in the afternoon and last unceasingly from 15:00 to 21:30. This time adjustment is to match the local weather and to increase the quality of arts performances.
In addition to time adjustment, activities related to the walking streets at night will take place in other places besides the main space of the old quarter of Hoi An Ancient Town, such as XQ art hand embroidery picture showroom, Cam Pho temple and Minh Huong Tuy Tien Duong relic.
Hoi An city has been famous not only for its cultural and natural heritages but for its space for pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles, which has made a beautiful impression on tourists.
In recent time, many activities have been organised to encourage the local residents and tourists to use bicycles and cyclos. All civil servants and staffs of this city gone to the office by bicycles since 1st April 2014. This regulation will make Hoi An become a green and cultural destination.
Reportedly, Hoi An was the first city of Vietnam to organise the event “Car Free Day” on 9 September 2012 and uphold it every year.
