(QNO) - In the role of a friendship clue and bridge, the Quang Nam Union of Friendship Organizations has made great contributions to provincial external activities.
Japanese writer Hiramatsu Tomoko and Australian volunteer Anna Papousakis have been awarded the medal “For Peace and Friendship among Nations” by the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations. They have made great contributions to humanitarian and charitable activities in Quang Nam, becoming the bridges between the poor in Quang Nam and international charitable organizations for 10 years.
Thanks to her companion- the Quang Nam Union of Friendship Organizations, Hiramatsu Tomoko has built over 40 charity houses (about VND1.2 billion) to help the Agent Orange/ Dioxin victims in Quang Nam. Similarly, Anna Papousakis with her projects on helping disadvantaged children has become a bridge through which international charities can meet and help poor children in Quang Nam. If there were not this companion, both of them could not do anything, stated by Tomoko and Papousakis.
The Quang Nam Union of Friendship Organizations always works well. Through the Union, a lot of funded projects have been carried out in Quang Nam by governmental and non-governmental organizations. They provided poor students with scholarships and bikes, the poor with charity houses, livelihoods and free health care.
In the past 5 years, the Quang Nam Union of Friendship Organizations has received thousands of international delegations from nearly 50 non-governmental organizations who supported Quang Nam over VND85 billion. At the same time, lots of charitable volunteer activities are annually done to help Lao people, especially those in Sekong province, which contributes to the development of Quang Nam-Sekong friendship.
The Union’s activities are all focusing on bettering the local lives, developing local communities, protecting environment, ensuring local safety and security, and promoting native cultural identities. In the coming time, the Union will center on specializing its staff, contributing to the development of the Union, to provincial external activities and to the provincial socioeconomic development.
