Increasing solidarity and maritime cooperation from 5th ASEAN Maritime Forum

(QNO) - The 5th ASEAN Maritime Forum (AMF) opened in the central city of Da Nang on August 27, with representatives from all 10 ASEAN member countries.

The event aims to increase solidarity and maritime cooperation within ASEAN, promote the association’s central role and trust-building in the region through negotiations and consultations, particularly in regards to ensuring maritime security and safety and free navigation throughout the region in accordance with international law, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982 and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea. 

The representatives overviewed and discussed to improve the coordination of humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, particularly the experiences of assistance ater the Haiyen storm. The event also discussed how to manage and protect marine eco-systems, biodiversity and aquatic resources, and boost cooperation regarding the member states’ respective fishery sectors and  the present situations relating to maritime security in the East Sea.On 28th August, the 3rd Expanded AMF will be opened in Da Nang city, with representatives from all 10 ASEAN member countries and eight East Asia Summit (EAS) partners: China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, India, Australia, New Zealand, Russia and the United States. By  KHANH LINH
