Integration via foreign relations


(QNO) - Quang Nam province has gradually  widened the foreign relations and international cooperation, mainly in economy and culture, to attract investment and tourists.

From heart to heart

On the occasion of 55th anniversary of  the Agent Disaster in Vietnam (October 8, 2016), the Japan’s delegation of Japan-Vietnam Friendship and Peace Council in Saitama (JVPF) led by Vice Chairman and writer Hiramatsu Tomoko visited Quang Nam and offered 500,000 yen to the provincial Union of  Friendship Organisations to build more humane homes for the victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in the province. Writer Hiramatsu Tomoko said she learned about Quang Nam province after she wrote a book about Mrs. Nguyen Thi Binh. This is the 30th time she has taken part in activities to help Vietnamese victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin. With her friends’ support, she desires to help a little to ease the pains of Agent Orange/Dioxin in Quang Nam.

Standing  Vice Chairman of the Quang Nam provincial Union of Friendship Organizations Hoang Chau Sinh said, to help unlucky people, reduce poverty, improve local people’s income and develop sustainable economy in the province, the union has co-operated with international and non-governmental organizations,   organized exchange activities to introduce Vietnam’s culture in general and Quang Nam’s land and people in particular.

Resource mobilization for development

Until now, Quang Nam has set up the bilateral relations with 9 localities of Laos, South Korea, Thailand, France, Belarus and promoted cooperative relation with high economic potential localities of Japan and the United States. At present, there are 129 valid projects with the total registered capital of over 6 billion USD and 20 projects of official development assistance (ODA) and preferential loan worth at more than 2,850 VND. They focus on technique infrastructure, climate change response, cultural heritage conservation and poverty reduction such as Quang Nam General Hospital, Vietnam-South Korea Friendship Children’s Hospital, water treatment in Japanese bridge…

According to Chairman of  Quang Nam People’s Committee Dinh Van Thu, the foreign relations meeting is organized every two years to strengthen cooperative relations between the province and its foreign partners. Foreign relations offices  overseas will act as a bridge to create opportunities for Quang Nam province to promote cooperative relationships and attract foreign investors.

In 2015, Quang Nam Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) ranked 8th. For the first time, the province was among top 10 provinces and cities nationwide with the best quality of management after 11 years of PCI ranking. Quang Nam also ranked 20th in The Viet Nam Provincial Governance and Public Administration Performance Index .
