Investing 25 billion VND to manage the Saola Conservation Area


(QNO) - The People’s Committee of Quang Nam province has approved the plan of investing 25  billion VND to manage and control the Saola Conservation Area - a nature reserve the globally endangered large mammal Saola (Pseudoryx nghetinhensi)  in the period 2013-2015 and orientation to 2020.

The Quang Nam Sao La Conservation Area was proposed to establish in 2011. This project plans to establish a species/habitat conservation area within a wider conservation landscape for Saola, protect special-use forests, precious natural flora and wild species. The investment capital will be granted by national budget, forestry protection and development investment capital, environment protection investment capital and from international organisations’ supports.

This Saola Conservation Area located in three communes Bhalee, A Vuong of Tay Giang district and Song Kon of Dong Giang district, with the total natural forest and forestry land area of 15,400 ha and divided into two sub-zones: the strictly protecting zone (15,378 ha) and administrative and services zone ( 22 ha).
