Cham Islands: free of waste

A discussion on sustainably dealing with waste on Cham Islands (Hoi An, Quang Nam) was jointly held on the morning of June 5 by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, Evergreen Labs, Cham Islands Biosphere Reserve and local authorities.

It is one of the activities under the Marplasticcs (Marine Plastics and Coastal Communities) project supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).

The project will dispose of all plastic waste on Cham Islands, including the buried one, from which new valuable items will be made.

The project is the initial step, then replicated in Hoi An and other places nationwide in order to protect environment.

Reportedly, a plant for plastic waste treatment with a capacity of 500 kilos of plastic waste an hour has been built in Cam Ha commune, Hoi An city. Its products are plastic boxes, tables, chairs and floor tiles.
