(QNO) - The success in Hoi An, My Son and Cham Islands results from the attachment of heritage conservation and promotion to community benefits. It is the discussion at the conference on the 20th anniversary of Hoi An ancient town and My Son Sanctuary recognized as UNESCO’s world cultural heritages and 10 years of Cham Islands World Biosphere Reserve.
After 20 years of being recognized as UNESCO’s world cultural heritages, Hoi An ancient town and My Son Sanctuary are nearly fully preserved and their values are more and more promoted. The Cham Islands World Biosphere Reserve has also been conserved effectively. All of them become more and more attractive to visitors.
Before there was the interference from UNESCO, Quang Nam took the initiative in cultural diplomacy in order to preserve and promote the local cultural heritages. The conservation and promotion of heritage values have contributed to the local development. Therefore, it can be said that cultural heritages play a key role in the local sustainable development; heritage and development resonate with each other.
According to Quang Nam leaders, the heritage conservation has to be closely attached to communities’ benefits. The local life becomes better thanks to the heritages; thereby the locals understand the importance of heritages to their lives and their responsibility for the heritage preservation.
The activities of propaganda and education of heritage conservation are also very important, helping increase the locals’ awareness of preserving heritages and protecting environment.
On this occasion, the title Excellent Artisan was given to 13 Quang Nam artisans who have contributed to the heritage conservation and promotion. Many other individuals and groups were also honoured at this event.
