The idea of green offices started in Finland in 1997 by WWF (World Wildlife Fund). It aims to reduce carbon emissions at the offices by changing people’s awareness and behaviour of economization and environmental protection.
In Hoi An, the movement of green offices was launched in August 2018 and met with an enthusiastic response.
At the Hoi An Centre for Cultural Heritage Management and Preservation, the color of green trees is covering the space of dossiers, books and documents. Everybody in the centre has at least a tree to look after. It contributes to making the centre friendly to environment.
Besides planting trees, saying “no” to plastic bags and straws is also implemented in Hoi An, especially in Cham Islands. At the Management Board of Cham Islands Marine Protected Area, all the plastic bottles of water are replaced by glass ones so that they can be easily reused.
The programme on green offices is really significant for environmental protection and reducing climate change impacts. The programme will be continuously enlarged to all the offices in the city at the end of 2019.
