"Hoi An memories", breathtaking and moving art show

(QNO) - The daily visual art show “Hoi An Memories” is put on a 25000 m2 stage on the Thu Bon river by over 500 actors and actresses. It has ever set two new records of the largest outdoor stage and the most performers in Vietnam. The show includes 5 scenes. With the help of modern mapping technology, the stage becomes sparkling, fanciful and more attractive.

The show tells a 4-century story in the language of poetry, music, drama, and dance. At the beginning of the story, a girl in ao dai (Vietnamese traditional costume) is sitting beside the loom and weaving memorial silk threads.

Stepping on these threads, Vietnamese girls in ao dai bring audiences back to the past when the first residents built their villages and settled here; and the Great Champa seaport was built.

The 2nd scene is the reappearance of the wedding of Che Man King and Huyen Tran Princess. It is an impressive performance in the background of Champa temples, towers and dances.

The 3rd scene of the show is a narrative of a faithful wife desperately waiting for her husband, a sailor. He hasn’t come home and she turns to be a stone statue. At the end of the story, the man returns, feeling wretched from the fact, he writhes in anguish beside the statue. The story is told on the sparkling and vaporous stage of lanterns.

Next, the Hoi An trade port in the 17th century reappears on the stage along with merchants from Japan, Holland, Portugal, China, India… They make exchanges of goods and take part in the local festivals. It is seen as the most prosperous time of Hoi An.

On the route of time threads that is weaved by the girl beside the loom, the girls in ao dai ride bikes to the current scene of Hoi An. Hoi An is an integration of ancient and modern times. All its tangible and intangible values have been protected well till now.

As mentioned, the “Hoi An Memories” programme is shown on the background of colourful lanterns that are very impressive to audience. The lantern is also the symbol of Hoi An, so it is the highlight during the show.
