(QNO) - The “Japan Cultural Days in Quang Nam” and “The 16th Hoi An – Japan Cultural Exchange 2018” events were officially opened in An Hoi Sculpture Garden, Hoi An city, Quang Nam province last night.

Present at the event were Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Umeda Kunio and his wife Keiko Umeda, Mayor of Matsusaka city Masato Takegami (Mie Prefecture), General Director of TAKARA Group Nishizaki Tatsuya, leaders of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Quang Nam Party Secretary Nguyen Ngoc Quang, Chairman of Quang Nam People’s Committtee Dinh Van Thu and representatives from Japanese prefectures and organizations, Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and some cities and provinces nationwide.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Quang Nam People’s Committee Le Van Thanh talked about the long-standing relationship, historical and cultural similarities between two countries Vietnam and Japan. Since the Diplomatic Relations were established on September 21, 1972 between Vietnam and Japan, the two countries have become important partners in many fields. Particularly, since the relations between Vietnam and Japan were upgraded to “Extensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia” in 2014, the two countries have developed strongly, comprehensively and sustainably.

Vice Chairman Thanh emphasized Quang Nam’s position, one of the first places in the Japan and Vietnam 400-year relations through the Hoi An trading port as well as the happy marriage between Ngoc Hoa princess (Vietnam) and merchant Araki Sotaro (Japan). Going on the good relations, Quang Nam has initiatively promoted the friendship cooperation with Japanese partners and localities in various fields.

The province has received ODA (official development assistance) tens of millions of US dollars from the Government of Japan, hundreds of thousands of US dollars from humanitarian aid and community development through non-governmental organizations in Japan. Quang Nam has attracted about 20 projects with a total of investment capital of more than 720 million USD from Japanese investors. At present, Quang Nam has more than 1,400 workers working in Japan under the program of sending and receiving Vietnamese trainees to Japan. The friendship between Quang Nam province and Nagasaki Prefecture was signed. In November 2017, in the framework of APEC Economic Leaders Week, the model of a Red-seal ship was given to Hoi An city (Quang Nam province) by Nagasaki province (Japan) at the Vietnam – Japan Cultural Space with the witnesses of Prime Ministers of Vietnam and Japan. It has left a deep impression on the relationship between the two countries, two localities.

Quang Nam province’s authorities and people hoped through the event, Quang Nam and its Japanese partners will strengthen mutual understanding and tighten the friendship between the two countries’ people. It contributes to making the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Japan deeper, closer and more effective.
In reply, Japanese Ambassador Umeda Kunio to Vietnam thanked Quang Nam province, Hoi An city for organizing the formal and impressive events of “Japan Cultural Days in Quang Nam” and “ The 16th Hoi An – Japan Cultural Exchange 2018”. He said Japan and Vietnam have celebrated 45 years of diplomatic relations with more than 120 events held in the two countries including the Japan Cultural Days in Quang Nam. However, standing on the stage of the opening ceremony last night, he once again felt that festival in Hoi An was a special event.
