(QNO) - A tortoise was released back to the sea in Binh Nam commune, Thang Binh district, Quang Nam province on April 13.

It is known that the tortoise was caught by a fisherman in Binh Nam commune, Thang Binh district on April 12. Then it was sold to another man named Le Phuoc Hao. Realizing the tortoise is a rare animal, Mr. Hao decided to hand over it to the authorities to set free.
The tortoise weighs 5kg. Its body is about 15-20cm long, over 10cm wide. Its shell is very beautiful with different colourful patterns.
According to a representative of the Fisheries Department of Quang Nam province, this sea turtle is a rare species of tortoise (group 1B, scientific name: Eretmochelis imbricata). It is listed as endangered wildlife in the Vietnam’s Red Book.
