(QNO) - The Family Hospital in Da Nang city has just successfully had an endoscopic surgery to save a marine turtle in Cham Islands (Hoi An city, Quang Nam province) for the first time. Earlier, the turtle’s digestive system was seriously damaged by strange objects, which was threatening its life.

This marine turtle (scientific name: Chelonioidea) weighs 8.2kg (about 4 or 5 years old). It was taken to the hospital by a wildlife rescue team from NASA.

After nearly 2 hours with 3 times of endoscopic surgery, most of the objects inside the turtle’s stomach (including net, plastic waste and sponges) have been successfully removed except the large-sized ones. So, the turtle will have another surgery in 3 or 4 days coming. At present, the turtle’s health is better, and it can swim well.

This situation of the turle warns marine pollution. Particularly, plastic waste is the most dangerous threat, impacting the lives of many species including marine turtles.
