(QNO) - According to the Quang Nam provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, thanks to numerous measures to stimulate demand, create a friendly tourism environment and improve the quality of products and services, this province welcomed nearly 2.6 million domestic and overseas tourists during the Jan-August period of 2014, a year-on-year increase of 5 percent. Among them were nearly 1.5 million domestic tourists, up 26 percent compared to the same period last year. The total tourism turnover of 8 months reached approximately 3.3 trillion VND (115 million USD).
The Cham Island welcomed nearly 195,600 tourists, hit over 95% of the whole year target. Most of visitors came to this island for summer holidays. The Cham Island managing Board expects to receive about 200,000 tourists in the coming Vietnamese National Day (2nd September) holidays.
Most of those visited two World cultural heritages My Son Sanctuary site and Hoi An Ancient Town . The number of tourists who stayed in the province has remarkably increased, with more than 702,000 holidaymakers in 8 months, a year-on-year rise of 12 %.
“Quang Nam province has developed sustainable tourism through the creation of favourable conditions for enterprises and localities to diversity and improve the quality of their products. Besides, to encourage visitors to extend their stay in Quang Nam, a range of attractive activities are on offer, from trips to sea, islands and handicraft villages to homestay and nature experiences. Many tourism promotion programmes have implemented to attract tourists, particularly over traditional holiday periods,” said Mr Dinh Hai, Director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
