Hoi An’s lanterns and Vietnamese traditional art lit up European sky

(QNO) - The above artistic activities is a part of the Festival “Hoi An Lanterns-Honour  Guests of Vietnam” which was held at the central square of Wernigerode ancient city - a typical one of the European culture in general and of Germany in particular, from 26th to 28th July 2013, on the occasion of Quang Nam province delegation’s visit to Wernigerode city to develop the twinning programs between two ancient cities: Hoi An and Wernigerode.

The Festival imprinted deeply the Vietnamese cultural features and of Hoi An city in particular throughout  the colourful lanterns, traditional folk-games such as Bai Choi game, Mua Sap dance…) or traditional dishes (Quang noodle, fried noodle). At the walking streets of the Wernigerode ancient quarter, thousands of colourfull Hoi An lanterns lit up and created a nicely connection between two twining cities Hoi An and Wernigerode. The Vietnamese folksongs and traditional music programmes performed in the festival days by musicians and players of Hoi An city were warmly welcomed. Especially, many people of Wernigerode city and foreign visitors joined and played together in the Mua Sap dance and Bai Choi traditional game.

The Hoi An lanterns were sold out quickly, regreted many slow-step customers. The Vietnamese students at German brought theater repertoire, praise dance, booths dance, country dance team to the festival. The festival program attracted the German and the Vietnamese working, studying and living in Germany as well as tourists from other countries. This was also an opportunity to exchange, promote culture,  share experiences in tourism and business activities…

After three days of performance, the “Hoi An Lantern Festival - Honour  Guests of Vietnam” ended successfully and remained much splendid impression in the heart of local residents and international tourists.

On 26th June, the signing ceremony of the Agreement on twining between two cities of Hoi An and Wernigerode was held at the City Hall of Wernigerode. At the signing ceremony, Chairman of the Hoi An city People’s Committee Le Van Giang said that the close relationship between Hoi An and Wernigerode will bring about practical interests for both sides in various fields. Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany Nguyen Thi Hoang Anh, Head Minister of the State of Sachsen-Anhalt Rainer Robra and Secretary of the Quang Nam provincial Party Committee Nguyen Duc Hai and attended the signing ceremony. All delegates expressed their belief that the twin relationship will help raise the level of Vietnam - Germany relations.  Mayor Peter Gaffert said “the Vietnamese community in Germany has integrated well into the German country. In particular, a number of Vietnamese students have achieved high academic results, and they are among the best foreign students in the city”. The Mayor of Wernigerode city invited Mr Nguyen Duc Hai and Mr Le Van Giang to sign the Golden Book of Wernigerode city. After the signing ceremony, the officials attended the Hoi An Lantern Festival’s opening ceremony organised in Wernigerode ancient town.

Earlier, a Germany-Vietnam economic forum was held at the Harz University in Wernigerode under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Armin Willingmann, Principal of the Harz University and Dr. Nguyen Phuc Hien, First Secretary of Vietnam Embassy in Germany and the participation of the delegations of Quang Nam province, Hoi An city and representatives of Wernigerode city. The two sides presented their economic relations, each country’s potentials and strength, as well as exchanged opinions on investment and co-operation opportunities in the two cities.
