Keep the old house in the native land
“Keep the old house in the native land” was the aspiration of the 108-column house’s owner before he transferred it to Mr. Le Van Vinh, Director General of Vinahouse JS company (located in Dien Ban district, Quang Nam province).
“This house is not bigger than the other ones in Vietnam, but this is the only biggest one that was restored as its first appearance at present …,” said Mr. Vinh.
At the beginning of 2014, the 104-year-old bamboo and thatched house and the 200-year-old 108-column house consisting of three compartments and two double lean-tos of Quang Nam province were recognised as Vietnam records in the history of vintage buildings by the Vietnam Book of Records (VietKings).
Besides, the Vietnam Book of Records (VietKings) also recognised Vietnam Record for a terracotta mosaic lake built at Vina house Space with old-fashion bricks and paved with 5,000 ancient terracotta dishes.
Before being transferred, this over 200-year-old house belonged to Mrs. Tran Thi Thao (Dai Phu hamlet, Dai Nghia commune, Dai Loc district, Quang Nam). It was built in “three compartments and two double lean-tos” style and restored for 3 years. Its art value is still intact on 108 columns, the wooden bars, doors and brick with beautiful and skilled carved features. Particularly, the most unique and different feature is on the 32 square shaped columns surrounding the outside of the house. They were made of sandstone exploited in Duy Xuyen and Dai Loc districts. This is the first house that was designed with stone columns Mr Vinh has seen. Therefore, the art value is the difference of these columns…
The old thatched house
The 104-year-old bamboo and thatched house was restored during one year running by two talented carpenters. It is a traditional house consisting of a compartment and two lean-tos. Before being restored, it belonged to Mrs. Pham Thi So in Dien Minh commune, Dien Ban district.

“At present, this kind of house has almost disappeared. When discovering it, I instructed Mrs So the ways to maintain and preserve it. This house is not only beautiful in its beautiful structure and building architecture with two bead lines plaited with rattan strings along the house length, but also deeply characterized Quang Nam countryside, ” said Mr Vinh .
Especially, all family daily used tools, farming and fishing tools such as beds, tables, chairs, baskets, boats, mills, kitchen… have been kept carefully as their first appearance. The small 100-year-old kitchen standing beside the house is still preserved well.
Since August 2011, many good building workers and carpenters of Quang Nam province have done their best to restore this house. This 70m2 area house’s frame is made of bamboo and ebony wood, the roof is covered with thatch and protected around by bamboo wattles. The floor is made of wedged clay and the garden is covered with baked bricks.
Another old bamboo and thatched house of Quang Nam located in Dien Ban district. However, its thatched roof was corrupted and covered by iron sheets to preserve it.
